Exposure in Teaching

Last August 01, 2018 we were deployed in our respective cooperating school and had our orientation. The principal said that we will not just observe but to verify, reflect and apply knowledge if what we have learned inside the classroom is really happening.

She also asked if we really want to be a teacher and we said yes. The principal oriented us about the rules and regulations of the school. As observers, we are expected to come five to ten minutes before the time of our observation. Using cellphone or any gadget inside the classroom is prohibited for it might disrespect the teacher. Of course wearing of the school uniform and ID is also one of the rules. She also said that she will check our DTR's right after our observation. Lastly, she mentioned that we are not visitors in the classroom, we should help our resource teacher voluntarily when she is in need and when she is not around the classroom.

As a future teacher we should give importance to the rules and regulations of the school and what the principal asked us to do inside their community because what they say and implement is for us.

Everyone of us is always excited on the first day of school. We get to know new friends, classmates, and teachers. As I watched the film "First Day of School: The Classroom Management", I was able to get new ideas, these are:

• The first day of school is the most important day of the school year.
• Implementation is the key to success.
• Your very first priority when the class starts is to get the students to work.

For me these are the ideas that I will own to guide me soon in teaching.

I agree that the first day of school is the most important day of the school year. Because if the first day of school is a mess then your school year will be mess. If it is successful in the first day, then the rest of the school year is successful. I also owned the idea that implementation is the key to success. If in the first day of school you implement all your rules and what your class and classroom to be then that implementation will be a success for rest of the school year. Otherwise, consistency will not be met if you did not made implementation on the very first day. Another one is that a priority of teachers when students gets to class is to work, I remember my grade six teacher, every time we enter the class, there is already a seat work that is posted and we have to answer it, and that became a routine. We have to make our students get to work every time they enter the classroom, because this is one of the strategy of classroom management. As a future teacher I want this ideas to stay on me and implement it soon. To achieve a well managed classroom and the consistency of what I did on the very first day.

The Effective Teacher

Participant: Kerie Anne A. Basilio
Major/Year Level: General Education - 4th Year
School: Holy Angel University
Title of Training Attended: The Effective Teacher: The First Days of School
Place and Date/s: PGN 104 - June 25, 2018
Training Organization/Institution: Association of General Education Students

One of the topics that was discussed is about the four stages of teaching. The first stage is fantasy, to be a successful teacher they need to relate or to be friends with their students. The second stage is survival, relying ineffectiveness just to make it through the day. To be followed by the third stage mastery, knows how to manage the classroom and has high expectations for their student. The last stage is impact, to be an effective teacher you make a difference to the lives of your students. It was also mentioned that "your success during the school year will be determined by what you do on the first days of school", for me it means that what happens on the first days of school will be an indicator of your success for the rest of the school year. Your first days of school can either make or break you to be an effective teacher.

It is relevant to my present course because I was able to learn about these four stages of teaching. These topics helps me to be ready when I am already a teacher. It prepares me on how to be an effective teacher for the school year. You will have an idea on how to be an effective teacher. As a professional, I am able to learn the different stages of teaching where in some of the professionals are really doing it. And as a professional, to be an effective teacher you should be effective in the first day of school. As what you have learned, you can practice now how to be an effective teacher. For my personal growth, I can participate from the first days of school until the school year ends. To be an effective teacher, you must first be an effective student.

I can use it when I am already teaching, it can be a guide to me on how to be effective. Also, i will not forget the word consistency and will apply it to myself when teaching.

It is about consistency. It is the most important thing to establish in the first day of school. Students don't want disorganization, if the first day of school is a well managed class then it should be a well managed class for the rest of the school year.

Let's know each other!

Hi, I'm Kerie Anne Basilio, 19 years of age, from Concepcion, Tarlac. I am currently studying at Holy Angel Univerity taking Bachelor of Elementary Education. As a professional to be, you should learn on how to act professional to your pupils, parents, and to your colleagues. You should know your responsibility in this field because this profession will be a lifetime commitment to you. My intention in becoming a teacher is to facilitate and inspire pupils. Also, in teaching them, I also want to learn from them. I was a shifter, my first course was Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, it was my father's choice, but after one semestre, I decided to shift because I don't feel happy in my course, I have no motivation to do my homeworks, and I have no energy to study. Since I was a kid, I invite my cousins to play and I will be the teacher and they will be my pupils. Now, there is only 2 sems left, and I will do my best to study well and will make an effort to do every activity.

My Observation Schedule, DTR, and Evaluation Letter

C ompleted my 20 hours observation.
